Experts on Global Warming (aka Climate Change) tell us that conserving energy is a great way we can all do our part.
The Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) suggests we make smart choices and "use energy-efficient products" to "greatly reduce our families' global warming impact".
Among other suggestions, the Earth Day Network (EDN) says to do "everything you can...to...use less water".
Anne Clarke's article describes why water conservation is so important. "Water covers about 70% of our planet, but only about 3% of that water is fresh water, and 2% of this fresh water is in the polar ice caps! What does this mean to you? It means you need to start conserving water... Just changing a few things can help."
Accurate Weatherset, a provider of smart irrigation controllers, connects the dots by asserting "Conserving water is an excellent way to slow global warming".
Here's why: Energy used for water extraction, conveyance (delivery from point A to point B), water treatment and distribution, and wastewater treatment all generate harmful CO2 emissions - about a pound of C02 for every 150 gallons of water used.
How much do YOU contribute to this problem? To find out, multiply the number of billing units listed on your water bill times 5. Since 1 unit = 748 gallons, about 5 pounds C02 are generated for each water billing unit consumed. Your total (billing units X 5) is the number of pounds of CO2 that YOU just released into our atmosphere!
Since conserving water avoids harmful C02 production, global warming is slowed when YOU conserve water!
Already cut back, but still want to reduce your environmental footprint?
Consider purchasing Carbon Offsets. These are available from our travel partner the Better World Club. BWC is certified by the Climate Neutral Network for pioneering the TravelCool! carbon offset program to help fight global warming.
